denim rose

the more sparkle the better

it’s a treasure chest of thrifted glitter

adult sized blouses cinched in by silver western belts

once worn by western queens

but probably donated by privileged teens

clacky clacky size 9 heels

“it’s a step and drag along, while in drag, mom”

of course I’ll need a cap,

toss me that blue hat

no, the bigger one, make me pretty

hot glued denim rose in the center for flare

now draw me as a woman

I saw in Seventeen

paint my cheeks red and make me serious

seriously beautiful, the kind that has to be seen

thick liner round the eyes and

round my lips to make them bigger

fill me in with red, red(der) is better

red says I’m a queen

thin model with her chin on her shoulder

is scarlet and she’s seen

the more sparkle the better

heard it’s all about the glitter

cannot wait to be

Seventeen
